Week 25 Roundup — 2026

June 22, 2026 Weekly Roundup

The Big Picture

5 entries this week. The Fable ban was the center of gravity — everything else orbited it.

SpaceX acquired Cursor for $60B in stock-not-cash, using an artificially inflated float to buy the product and distribution that xAI couldn’t build fast enough. The Entity List freeze revealed that the US government isn’t maintaining its own export control infrastructure — 100+ companies approved for blacklisting, none published in 8 months. The Fed signaled rate hikes as Iran war inflation ran hot, and the US-Iran MOU turned out to be a 60-day clock, not a settlement. AWS moved to sell Trainium chips to third parties but hit the TSMC bottleneck that constrains everyone.

And running through all of it: the question of model lock-in. The Fable ban showed that building on a single model provider is infrastructure dependency, not just a vendor preference. Chinese open models — GLM-5.2 launched the day after the ban — became the sovereign alternative you can’t recall with an export control. Cloudflare’s model-agnostic vulnerability harness kept running because it was designed to not care which model was underneath. The companies that built for portability from day one survived the week without breaking a sweat.

On the build side, SE Intel closed the multi-tenancy stack: three layers (RAG, memory, audit), three deterministic probes, three isolationOk: true. The end-to-end test and Blog #1 wrapped Week 1.

SpaceX acquires Cursor for $60B in inflated stock to fuel xAI’s catch-up play, the Fable crisis deepens with unauthorized Mythos access and an Anthropic communications failure, the US Entity List sits frozen for 8 months as DeepSeek escapes blacklisting, and Cloudflare ships Flue and the One stack as the three-layer production agent architecture.

4. Daily Digest — June 18, 2026 — June 18

Warsh’s first Fed meeting signals rate hikes as Iran war inflation runs hot, the US-Iran MOU is a 60-day clock not a settlement, Anthropic employees push back on the Fable ban as Claude Design ships its enterprise pivot, and AI is shifting CI/CD from a speed problem to a risk problem.

5. Daily Digest — June 19, 2026 — June 19

AWS moves to challenge Nvidia by selling Trainium chips but hits the TSMC bottleneck, the Fable ban accelerates Chinese open model adoption as switching costs make model lock-in look like infrastructure lock-in, Cloudflare’s model-agnostic vulnerability harness is the architecture that survives model bans, and temporary agent accounts reframe auth as a scoped identity problem not a removal problem.

One Thing I’m Watching

Chinese open model acceleration. GLM-5.2 launched the day after the Fable ban, explicitly citing US unreliability. It’s open weight — once released, it can’t be recalled by export controls. Microsoft is reportedly considering DeepSeek for Copilot Cowork to save on inference costs, despite being a major OpenAI shareholder. If the US proceeds with frontier model export controls, Chinese open models become the default alternative for every non-US government and enterprise. The irony: export controls designed to keep AI capabilities out of adversary hands may be accelerating the adoption of Chinese models globally. Worth watching whether that accelerates over the summer.
